Did you know?On a typical residence fire, BCTFD Staff respond in the following fashion.1 Engine with 4 staff1 Engine with 3 staff1 Ladder with 1 staff if in an area with a hydrant or Tanker if an area without a hydrant.Here are the roles of the BCTFD staff.2 Engineers - They drive the fire truck, run the pump, connect the incoming water supply hoses and get gear out for the suppression crews.1 Command - This is typically the officer of one of the engines. Their job is to assess the scene, direct resources, be a single point of contact for dispatch. They are ultimately the one responsible for the overall scene management.1 Tanker Operator - This individual is responsible for giving water from the tanker to the engines during the initial attack. If a prolonged incident, they will setup a dump tank (think portable above ground pool) so the engine can siphon that water. They will shuttle back and forth to a hydrant.4 Firefighting - These crews are responsible for initial attack and control of the fire. This includes pulling hoses from the engines and entering the structure. They are also responsible for searching and rescuing victims. They will also work to secure utilities as time allows.The above scenario is standard when all of our units are in service and fully staffed. Mutual aid resources are also instrumental in assisting our staff in ensuring safe operations on the fire ground. ...
